Wool on Cotton Base This appears to be a finely knotted Persian carpet (approximately 300 knots per square inch). Given the weave (Sennah knot on a finely spun cotton foundation) and the soft red and blue colors, it is very possibly from Kashan. A boteh design is not typical in Kashan carpets but a wide variety of rug designs have been woven there. The rug probably dates from about 1920 or possibly earlier. The dyes appear to be natural dyes. The rug has a very nice design and color palette. The city of Kashan, located in north central Iran, has a reputation for producing top quality Persian carpets.
