ORIGIN |
Japan |
DATE |
19th Century |
SIZE |
24 x 10 x 5 cm |
DESCRIPTION |
Japanese maki-e (lacquer) document box with what appears to be silver mounts and silk rope tie. The center mon (crest) on the interior was first used by Sakai Tadatsugu (a Tokugawa retainer, 1527-1596). I was unable to find the second mon. The document box (Fubako) appears to be in fine condition and dating from the early 20th century, Most Fubako are in black or brown with gold and/or silver motifs. |
